A short history.   Susan Mayhew Devine, owner and founder of Fourth Daughter, travels the world to find materials for production of fabulous, fun designs. Fourth Daughter began after one of Susan's global trips, when she was wearing jewelry she had acquired. A lady approached her where she had purchased the necklace she was wearing. After repeated compliments, she persuaded Susan to sell the necklace from her neck! Today, Fourth Daughter sells to over 2000 customers in the US, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Fourth Daughter (and yes, Susan is a fourth daughter) was born by Susan's recognition that women appreciated her style of unique and fun accessories. Following a successful entrepreneurial career in medical technology and physician group management, she spent five semesters studying studio art and painting. Traveling worldwide with her husband, she connected with Asian culture, color, design and jewelry. Thus began the pairing of business with her degree in Art History: establishing distribution channels for artists throughout Asia, commissioning design work, and developing an apparel line while creating and selling her own designs.

Susan is the happy companion to her best friend, George; the proud mother of two grown sons who have chosen the world's best wives; the lucky stepmother of two grown daughters. With six grandchildren, she cherishes her time among family.

"For the first time in my life, I have the chance to work with color and design. Fourth Daughter gives me an opportunity to exercise the creative, right side of my brain. Beginning this new business when I was past 40 was a chance to combine my business experience and imagination to see what could happen. I've never worked so hard and had so much fun!"
